Our remodelling of the heritage fronted site in Hawthorn is now finalised. The home to a family with three daughters has been updated to allow for the family to grow into next stage of living together as young adults with space to move. The brief was to provide a family home for five, with large communal spaces and smaller private retreats whilst preserving the heritage of the building.

The requirements for development of buildings in a ‘heritage overlay’ can seem prohibitive to new work. In a sense they are, but for good reason. Often the drawcard to an area is the established style and quality of housing. It makes sense then, to preserve this value for both new and existing residents of an area.

To breathe new into the corner-sited cottage, the new work was hidden from the main street view. Within that context, we provided a ground-level rear extension with pool and pool house and at the second-storey three bedrooms plus bathroom and terrace addition.
